Magic of Mewar...

Like secrets of yore, winds of Mewar pulled me and tugged me till I gave in to it. Carrying secrets and magic from a time before us, it enveloped me until I let it in and then out. I became the carrier of  their whispers.

It is wrapped up in bright hues of crinkly women with naughtiness in their eyes and laughter in their jaunty steps. You see it all around... at the footsteps of their temples, in the bylanes near the palaces and in the city that swallows them all.

The lake pulls you towards it, till you decide to see the sunset that is sold to you. With palaces in its midst and tiny hidden creeks where lovers turn red, you are carried on the west wind's lap to see it all. To see the jets created by the dhows, to hear the tales of every sailor, I'm an honoured guest.

Seated on the footsteps of a ghat hidden from most eyes, water soaks up my tired feet and kisses it with all the goodness only crests of waves can. The feeling slowly fills you up while watching the boatman take his last customers fluidly across the orange molten bowl. The peace that washes over me long after the sun has hugged me goodbye fills me with dread of city life.

With a bounce in my step, I make way for another to be filled up to the brim with happiness. As I spring along, I'm taken by all those who conspire to feed me well, to a quaint Lebanese joint hidden between trees and overlooking Lord Jagadeshwara. Tinted lanterns and tawdry lights fog my vision of yesterday until I leave with a faraway smile on my face.

To Mewar........
